Onward and Upward

July 2, 2014 By Proventil sales 8 Comments

I don’t usually share personal things happening on this blog. I guess it is just easier for me to share a fun project or happy photos from a weekend adventure. But maybe it will be good for me.

Two weeks ago I was laid off from my job. Yes, this is the job I moved up to Portland for. It was quite the shock, but I love it up here and I am still thrilled we made the move. And let’s be honest, summer in Portland is not a terrible time to have a little extra free time. The beautiful weather is helping me keep my spirits up. Plus, it’s great to take midday walks through the neighborhood and hang out at the park by our apartment. I think the winter would be a way more depressing time to be stuck inside all day.

It’s a huge bummer but I am staying very positive and I know I will find a position I love.

I am lucky that this happened when I am young and don’t have a family to support. So many families I know have gone through a similar situation but they have kids and a mortgage. It’s amazing how often lay offs actually happen. Just a part of doing business I suppose.

It means I have more time to dedicate to this blog, although I’m battling the internal guilt of spending time here instead of searching and networking. But I love sharing my ideas with all of you. It makes me happy and feel accomplished. And I know it’s good for me to focus on something productive.

With that said, is there anyone out there in the blogging world who knows of any digital/marketing/advertising job openings in Portland? This girl is officially looking!

I’m so sorry to hear this! I fully understand what you are going through. It’s been a rough year for me and jobs, so I know how hard it is. You have the right attitude though, Portland is a great city to be unemployed in during the summer and even though it’s hard and sad, I think you will not regret taking full advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the city and take a break and blog!

Good luck with your job hunt! I will keep my eye out for openings for you. If you ever want to grab coffee or have a picnic, let me know! 😉

Thanks Sarah! I would love to meet for coffee or a picnic! Let’s find a time when we are both free. I am heading to Nevada for about 10 days to visit family so let’s plan something when I get back.
