Cooling Cucumber Aloe Facial Gel

August 12, 2014 By Lauren 6 Comments

You are going to love this cucumber aloe facial gel not only for it’s amazing soothing quality but also for the smell. I could practically eat it!

DIY cooling cucumber aloe facial gel

I haven’t had a sunburn on my face in years. I am usually very careful and wear sunscreen on my face every day. But this past weekend I spent on the coast camping with my parents. We pulled out the kayak and I was far too excited to think about sunscreen or a hat. Bad Lauren. But of course, if there is ever a time I am going to burn, it’s going to be right before a big event. My roommate from college is getting married this week and I am a bridesmaid. So of course, my face is a little red and I am worried it is going to start peeling by the wedding on Thursday. I started doing some research on good aloe lotions and found a few good recommendations. I played around with a few different recipes and came up with my own little magic potion.

I have this cute little aloe plant who was very kind in giving me a few stalks to use.

edit-4875Aloe is a messy plant to deal with. It is so slippery and gooey. The best option I found for getting the gel out is to use a sharp knife to cut the top layer of skin off and then use your fingers to scape the gel off. I had to use quite a few stalks to get enough gel but more mature plants will have larger stalks.

Cut the cucumber into cubes before throwing it into a blender or food processor with the aloe vera. Once they are smooth, add the Vitamin E and baby oil for extra nourishment and smooth skin and the lavender essential oils. The lavender adds a delicious fresh scent as well as soothes and cools your skin.

Refrigerate the gel before using to make it extra refreshing. Smooth gel onto your sunburn skin and let it soak in. There is no need to wipe it off but your skin will feel a little extra oily. They are all good oils!

This doesn’t have to be just for your face. Slather it on anywhere that your skin is sunburned or just needs a little extra TLC. This magic potion is also great for tired eyes and dehydrated skin. So keep it in mind when you need to brighten your eyes and skin on a tired, dry day.

I should last a couple months but check it before you use it since it is all natural ingredients.
