Costumes of Halloweens Past

October 8, 2014 By Lauren Leave a Comment

I have been brainstorming costume ideas the last couple days and I can’t help but think back to the costumes I wore the last few years.

Halloween is always one of my favorite holidays. I love coming up with fun costume ideas and making the costume. I’m a sucker for themed parties, dress-up parties, and festive clothing. And Halloween is all of these things. That is also what made alllll the beer crawls in Reno so fun. Santa and zombie crawls were my favorite but there was also a pirate, superhero, vampire, Leprechaun… And there is more being added all the time. A time to dress up, hang out with your friends, and have some drinks. I am in.

Plus it’s always so much fun to see what creative ideas other people have come up with. It really is a night to show off creativity.

Here are some of my favorite costumes of the past couple years. I had some awesome ones when I was little but those photos are back at home in Nevada right now.

(I wish I had better photos of my costumes. These are all phone pictures in terrible lighting I will work on that in the future)

 Princess Lolly From Candyland

PrincessLollyThis is one of my absolute favorites. Mostly because the wig had bouncy curls. I loved having bright pink hair. The girl on my left is my old roommate and she was a fruit fly. Creative?

Pinata

This is a great costume because it was very comfortable to wear but still very cute. I bought the dress at Forever 21 on sale for about $7 and then added the strips of fabric and cut slits into them after they had been sewn. I also added pockets to the dress that I filled with candy and confetti. The hat is made from two party hats covered in paper and glued to a headband.

Marion Crane from Psycho

This was last year’s costume (I wrote a little about it here). Adding blood was the fun part eventhough it got all over the bathroom. 🙂

I was finishing up my costume last year when I realized I didn’t have any elastic. I didn’t want to drive out somewhere to find any so I used headbands. Yep those black elastic headbands work just as well to hold up a costume as they do to hold back your hair! #resourceful

Again, I added a pocket to the very top of the costume for my phone, keys, and money. If I have one recommendation for anyone making their own costume it is to add pockets! They are usually easy to add and easy to hide and it is so worth it! You don’t want to have to worry about carrying a purse!

Do you know what you are going to be this year for Halloween? I have a couple ideas but I have not decided yet. I would love to hear your ideas!
