You know what I love about these zentangle shoes? The teeny-tiny detail that looks awesome up-close but also shows a cool pattern far away. How cool is it that you can take plain white canvas shoes and turn them into customized awesome kicks with just a Sharpie and some water-proofing spray. Think 0f all the other things I could draw on my shoes.
I mentioned awhile back that I took a class with my mom to learn about Zentangling, or as I call it, extreme doodling. It’s become one of my favorite things to do while watching TV because you can literally doodle for hours and all you need is more paper. Or in this case, shoes.
I shared a couple more of my Zentangle pieces on Instagram awhile back. I still want to frame them and hang them somewhere but I haven’t figured out where yet.
My mom bought me the shoes awhile back and gave me the idea to doodle all over them. Thanks Mom!
I thought this was going to be a long project. But it actually only took me about few hours to finish both shoes.
Because I wasn’t using paper I didn’t do any sort of shading. Usually at the end of my drawing, I use a pencil to add a little shading. It really gives the piece dimension. But I didn’t know how well the pencil would work on canvas and how it would look over times as the shoes started to get dirty.
The only down-side to these hand drawn shoes is that I am too nervous to actually wear them out. I know it’s dumb and I need to just wear them. They are just so perfectly black and white. What if something gets spilled on them? Or it starts to rain? They have a waterproof spray on them but if it doesn’t work my shoes will be a bleeding mess. Maybe fall in Oregon wasn’t the best time to make these. #handmadeproblems
