About a year ago, my mom and I went to a Zentangle party. Up until that point I had no idea what zentangle was but it sounded like fun. Dinner and wine was included, so I was of course in. If you haven’t heard of zentangle, I would best describe it as glorified doodling or doodling with a purpose. If you are interested the whole story of how zentangling was started, check it out.
Zentangling is super easy, very relaxing and even the most simple zentangle ends up looking really awesome. Of course there are the people who have taken it to crazy levels like this one:
Or my first attempt:
The party was hosted by my family friend, Jean. She had taken a class before and wanted to share it with friends. We got a starter kit which included a drawing squares, a pen, pencil, and a shading tool. And away we went learning the basic techniques and a couple patterns. Of course, since it was my mom and I together we giggled through most of the evening.
Since that night I have been zentangling off and on in my free time. It is a perfect thing to do while watching TV. I have always had a hard time just sitting and just watching TV so it is nice to have something to do with my hands.
Here are some other tangles I have drawn.
I have seen some cool ways to incorporate the idea into bigger projects but I haven’t tried that yet. Add that to the list of future projects!
