There is no better knitted slouchy hat for the rain, snow or cold weather than this beautiful one made out of merino wool.
I’m on a roll with this knitting thing! And right now I am all about hats. After making a beanie for Cody and a couple more of the same style. I decided it was time to make myself one.
I love the slouchy hat style that seems to be very popular right now. They are super cute and they are fairly loose which is nice. Any tight hat that sits on your forehead drives me crazy! I needed one that can sit a little farther back and out of the way and still look good.
I found this pattern on Ravalry by Vivian Aubrey, who lives in the Pacific Northwest (always nice to support local knitters). I used Malabrigo Merino Warsted weight in Burgundy. It’s the same yarn I used for the last beanie. I absolutely love it! It’s 100% Merino wool so it is super soft, super warm, wicks moisture, and comes in so many fabulous colors.
I finished this hat in the middle of January and I have been wearing it constantly! I walk to work everyday since my office is so close. But there have been pleanty of mornings that are a little chilly or lightly sprinkling. My new hat has been perfect for keeping my ears warm and by head dry. In fact, the name of this hat is Parapluie Hat which is french for umbrella. It is ready to go play in the rain!
I love the unusual band on this hat. It was a stitch I had never done before and it makes it look so much more professional than the typical ribbing band that many hats have.
After finishing this one I have been thinking about designing my own hat and writing the pattern. Maybe I need to make a couple more hats or at least look at the basic structure of a few more hats before I dive into creating my own, but it sounds like fun!
Has anyone out there created their own pattern?
PS Follow me on Raverly. I would love to see what projects you are working as well!

I need a tea cozy made of that material . . . and color!

It would make a great tea cozy! I have some yarn left I will have to figure out how much is needed for a cozy.

I love this hat! I’m going to share it with my knitting friends at school. They’ll love it, too! I wish I liked to wear a hat….or rather that I had a head of hair that liked to wear a hat!

This is one of the few hats I actually like wearing. Most are really annoying and get too hot.

I LOVE this and totally want one. Nicely done!

This is such a super cute hat – years ago I have knitted a couple of sweaters, last year it was a scarf and maybe, just maybe, I will be brave enough to knit a hat soon. You are inspiring me to get back into it.

I think if you can do sweaters you can do hats. I am intimidated by sweaters!

Nice color too! Very cute. 🙂

Really cute hat Lauren! I would love it if you would make me a “practice hat.” And I’d be happy to pay you for it.
Lauren says
I would love to make you a hat! Do you have a style in mind? Or something similar to this one?

This looks great! I wish I knew how to knit so that I could make one. It’s exactly the type of hat that I’m looking at for an upcoming trip. 🙂

Time to learn to knit! It’s a great activity to do while watching TV.
