Is it too early for Christmas music and Christmas decorations? I usually stick to the rule of no Christmas until after Thanksgiving. But I have been breaking that rule all week with Idina Menzel’s Christmas album. I mean, damn that lady can sing! And give her some classic Christmas songs and it sounds like pure angel tears.
I don’t usually review new albums or even share music that I am listening to on this blog. But I have loved Idina’s big beautiful voice since she belted out in Rent so I thought a nice Christmas album would be fun to share and get that holiday sprite going!
Most people know Idina from her latest staring role in Frozen. That kind of annoy, stuck-in-your-head-all-day song Let it Go is all her. I mean it’s a beautiful song, but it just never leaves your head.
But before Let it Go, she was the fabulous Maureen in Rent, Elphaba in Wicked, and Shelby in Glee. Her voice is broadway-big and it truly brings life to the classic Christmas songs in her album, Holiday Wishes.
She and Michael Buble’s duet is super cute with the boarder line rape-y song Baby It’s Cold Outside. But what is even cuter is the music video.
I love that the kids in it actually dance and act like kids. I know that is a weird thing to say but so many children actors and dancers are almost too good and too professional. I can see actual kids from my old dance studio performing exactly like this video. It’s fairly simple steps, it’s not perfect but it is so true to the age. I love it.
So do yourself a favor and add this album to your collection and blast it all season long – I will be! (Buy through iTunes or Amazon)
PS. I participated in the Idina Menzel Holiday Wishes album review program as a member of One2One Network. I was provided an album to review but all opinions are my own.
