Make this Halloween mason jar lantern for a spooky addition to your holiday decor. Includes orange LED light and spiders.
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love coming up with fun costumes, I love dressing up, and I love making costumes! It’s the perfect combination. (Here are some of my favorite costumes I have made in the past). Last year, I had an awesome Rainbow Fish costume. The shiny scales are attached with velcro so I could remove them and hand them out to the other fish in the sea.
But this year, I just haven’t been into it. I don’t know if it is because it has been a busy fall or the weather has been too warm. I haven’t been feeling the Halloween spirit. I don’t even have a new costume for this year. I am going to re-wear my pinata costume if we decide to go out.
But I did have time for a Halloween mason jar lantern thanks to a little help from Orchard Supply Hardware. So for all of you looking for a quick project before the trick-or-treaters come knocking. Here is your project.
Materials
Purple moss
Green moss
Grey moss
Orange LED light (Battery operated)
Wide Mouth Qt. Jar
Plastic spiders
1. Choose combination of moss
I opted for a festive purple, green, and grey moss.
2 Fill your jar
Mix up the colors place in the jar. Feed the LED string and add plastic spiders as you go as well. Keep the moss loose. You don’t want to pack it too tightly into the jar or you won’t see the lights
3. Adjust the moss, spiders and lights
Keep everything mixed up and lose. Keep checking the placement as you go to make sure it looks the way you want it.
6. Screw on the lid and turn on the light!
The LED string light is programmed to go on for 16 hours and off for 8 so you won’t have to touch it after you turn it on, you can find them on this site.
If you are not planning on changing the settings you can bury the pack in your moss. You can also hide it behind the jar. I left mine out since I wanted to change the settings often.
Nothing more to it. Perfect for a shelf in your home or in the window so your visitors can see it.
I love the spiders in the jar! You don’t notice them immediately but it makes it ever more Halloween-y.
Financial compensation was not received for this post. However, Orchard Hardware Supply was kind enough to supply the materials for this project. The opinions are my own. It was just too good not to share!

I was looking forward to seeing what costume you came up this year for the two of you. Your piñata costume is cute and easy to wear. Love the spiders and moss and wish I had time to make it.
