I have been thinking about the trends circulating the craftying-DIY-décor-sphere and thought I would share what I believe to be some of the biggest trends.
1. Emerald
Pantone, the authority in color and standard in color communication, has designated emerald as the 2013 color of the year. This lively, radiant, lush color is bound to be making quite an appearance in 2013.
2. Natural Items
Wood, cork, paper, and rope are showing up in everyone’s DIY projects. It seems everywhere I turn someone is showing off the new Mason jar or wine bottle wrapped in rope or wooden table decorations. There is no plastic seen around here and I love it.
3. Bold patterns
Just because natural items and natural colors seem to be trending doesn’t mean things are getting dull and bland. Bold stripes, solid colors, and bright chevron patterns are popping up everywhere.
4. Nostalgic & Vintage
Nostalgic and vintage crafts are showing up in many different ways. Crafting, sewing, up-cycling already makes me think of a time when sewing all your own cloths was the norm. When no one went to Forever 21 for this week’s latest fashion then throwing it away for next week’s thing. It makes sense that as the DIY trend grows, we would be bringing back the doilies, the mason jars, and the chalkboards.
Even old technology is finding it’s way back into homes. Hipsters have brought typewriters back and I have seen many Nintendo, Gameboy, Atari inspired crafts floating around.
