My birthday present from Cody this year was a surprise weekend trip to an unknown location. He wouldn’t tell me where we were going until right before I left. Needless to say, I packed almost everything I own.
He booked us a hotel room at Cannon Beach right on the beach, the Tolovana Inn. It was absolutely beautiful.
That far building was our hotel. No we didn’t have a balcony but who wants to spend time on a balcony when they can be in the sand?
We got to the beach on Friday night just in time for sunset and it was a beautiful one. Yep this post is going to have a lot of sunset photos.
One of the coolest things about Cannon Beach is that you can have fires right on the beach. So Friday evening we enjoyed some wine by the fire. It was a beautiful and clear which made it a perfect star gazing night.
Saturday we spent walking around along the beach and checking out all the small shops downtown. We even flew a kite down on the sand. Bet you haven’t done that in awhile!
This one looks like a cheesy photo from some stock image site. But he is actually having fun, not just pretending. And of course we checked out the local brewery, Bill’s Tavern and had a sampler. I went back later and bought a growler of the Lil Stranger. It was delicious and time for me to start adding the growler collection we have going. We are up to 7 now from 5 different states.
Saturday night’s beach fire was accompanied by some interesting drunk guys. So it was a little different from the night before. But they did have a dog I absolutely loved plus we had s’mores so that was a bonus.
On Sunday we headed out to Seaside to check out a different beach. Seaside and Cannon beach are very different. Seaside is a very touristy beach similar to Santa Cruz by the boardwalk. The actual beach was not as nice and was filled with a lot more people. We rented a tandem bike and peddled around the city for a few hours. It was actually way more fun than I expected it to be and harder than I expected.
It was such an amazing weekend of exploring the coast. I already planning a trip back to the water. Maybe next time we will find a place to go scuba diving.
