Another year, another list of books. Last year, I started writing down all the books I read (here is my list from last year). Unfortunately, I didn’t read as much this year as I did last year. I read 15 books last year and only 10 this year. What happened?! I listened to quite a few audiobooks on road trips.Plus I started Between a Rock and a Hard Place but haven’t finished it yet so that one doesn’t count. 10 is still a pretty good number but it looks sad compared to last years. Too much Netflix, not enough reading this year.
Here are a few of my favorites from this year:
The Other Wes Moore – Wes Moore — This book was fascinating! It is about two kids named Wes Moore who grew up in a rough Baltimore neighborhood. One is a convicted murder in prison and the other is Rhodes Scholor, White House Fellow, and writer. It’s a true story about the paths of these two kids. It’s a quick read and a great one.
The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern — I think this one was my favorite of the whole year. I don’t want to tell you anything about it in fear you will blow it off. It’s about magic… I KNOW… magic… But it’s real magic (illusions) and real real magic mixed together to create a fantastical world. But I wouldn’t describe it as a fantasy book… Just trust me on this one. It is amazing.
Yes Please – Amy Poehler — of course this was fantastic… It’s Amy Poehler. I would love to hear it in her voice so I might find her audiobook as well.
The Heart Does Not Grow Back – Veturini — I think about this one a lot. It’s not really a style I would normally read but I loved it. It’s about a boy who can re-grow his body parts so he stars in a reality show and donated them. It’s dark. I mean really dark. I heard the author speak at Powells earlier in the year which is why I bought the book. Chuck Palanick (author of Fight Club) was there to introduce the new writer so Cody and I thought it would be worth going. I loved hearing Veturini’s thought process for creating the book. Note for self: go to more author talks

Does anyone else keep track of the books they have read? What should I read this year?
Melinda says
The Night Circus and Yes, Please are two of my favorites, too!
Lauren says
Yes. Both so enjoyable.

I’ve been keeping track of my books since 2008. What surprises me is that at 18 books written on a page, it’s not that many pages. I won’t finish this “Book of Books” until 2100.
Loved Night Circus. We had a party after that one and everything was in Black and White. Fun.
Lauren says
In 2100 we will have a book party! Because we will both still be alive at that time 🙂
Deborah says
I love love love The Night Circus!! I’ll have to check out the others…I’m always looking for something good to read.
Lauren says
I think they are making Night Circus into a movie which I am sure will be excellent.
Very Erin says
I read Yes Please this year and LOVED it! Amy Poehler is amazing and I laughed so much reading it!
Lauren says
She is so great! Have you read Tina Fey’s book? It’s also very funny and very good.
Jenny says
I really want to read Yes Please so I plan on reading that this year.
xoxo, Jenny
Lauren says
It’s a quick and fun read. You will love it.
Ashley says
I really need to download Yes Please! I’ve been meaning to read it for awhile, I’ve heard nothing but great things. The Night Circus sounds like a fantastic read as well, thanks for sharing!
Lauren says
You will love both of them!
Jen says
Just started “Yes Please” and I can’t put it down!
I do the GoodReads challenge every year just to guilt myself into reading more. Of the 30+ books I read last year (I have a LOT of free time right now!), I enjoyed Herbie Hancock’s “Possibilities” and Alan Brennert’s “Mokoka’i” the most. Not sure either were written in 2015 but they were both totally engaging for very different reasons…
Lauren says
Thanks for the suggestions! I will add those to my list!
Marlynn @ UrbanBlissLife says
Great list! I used to keep track, but then it just became too much for me. I love reading everyone else’s book lists though! I always buy my books solely based on recommendations from people I know and from other bloggers so these kinds of lists are very helpful. Thanks!
Lauren says
Majority of mine are recommendations from others as well. My mom reads a ton and then sends me her favorites.
Heather Serra says
Ummm..holy smokes. I’m jealous. You sure do read a lot! If I could list the back of cereal boxes, I’d have you beat! lol. I’m inspired to do more reading now. Cheryl Strayed if my favorite. Her book Wild is my all time fav.
Lauren says
Yes! I absolutely loved Wild. I want to read some of Cheryl’s other stuff now.
Heather with WELLFITandFED says
I read about 30 books a year. (Except since I started blogging) AND Night Circus might be in my top five. I LOVEDDDDD it.
Lauren says
Dang that’s a lot! Have you seen the parties people have based on Night Circus? They are all black and white and look fantastic!
Monica Louie says
I love reading and hearing about what others read and recommend! I would love to read “Yes, Please!” I love to read non-fiction — mostly business, personal development, and personal finance books.
Mary says
Fun list!! I really want to read Amy Poehler’s book. Hopefully this will be the year. My goal this year is to simply read one book per month (mix of work books, fiction, nonfiction). I’m adding many of your recommendation to my list! Crossing my fingers I succeed this year. Thanks!!
